Rio (Movie) Review

Hey guys!

Yesterday I went to watch Rio with Shin and this will be my two cents on the movie.

Rio is about a blue (Spix's) macaw called Blu who when he was little, got poached from the forests of Rio de Janeiro. But by luck his crate fell outside the door of a young girl, Linda in Moose Lake, Minnesota. They grew up together and Blu becomes very domesticated to the point he can't fly. One day a man called Tulio finds them and asks Linda to bring Blu to Rio to meet a female macaw named Jewel in hopes they will mate.
In Rio the pair gets poached and a wild and amusing adventure begins.

The movie sports Jesse Eisenberg as Blu, Anne Hathaway as Jewel, George Lopez as Rafael, a Toco Toucan, Jemaine Clement as Nigel, a villainous Cockatoo and even Will.i.am as Pedro, a rapping Red-crested Cardinal and Jamie Foxx as Nico, a Canary.

The highlights of the movie is the awesome animation, 3D, voice acting and music. The vibrant colours they show of Rio during the Carnivale, the Brazilian Carnival, is breathtaking as well as the colourful exotic birds. The whole movie keeps your eyes wide open as you take in all the eye-candy and that is simply brilliant. The music is awesome! It sets the festive mood as well as it mixes with the settings very nicely.

The downfall of the movie is the paper-thin romance aspect (like in Thor) and poor-ish character development. The problems are not that big because the movie is straight forward and the pretty pretty animation will keep you busy haha.

All in all, the movie is a 4/5 for me. Bring the kids they'll love it. It's a good movie for everyone to enjoy, the funny scenes are amusing and the music is great.
